Batavia High School students use SCORE grant to help needy children

The听students of the听Developing Opportunities Program at Batavia High School and听sponsoring teacher听Tanner听Seal used a $750 IEA SCORE grant听in听a community听service project听to create听warm听blankets for听needy children.听The grant funded听the purchase of听fabric and materials听students used to create 鈥渘o-sew, fleece blankets鈥 for donation.听Students听selected materials,听designed and made blankets听as their contribution听to the project. The听blankets were then donated听and distributed to听children through the DuPage County Chapter of Project Linus.

鈥淭his has听been a great experience for our听students,鈥 said Seal.听 鈥淭hey were so thoughtful when picking out听fabrics听and envisioning their blankets. Their creation of the听blankets was a totally selfless act.听 It was great to see our students caring for others.鈥

Project Linus is a national, not-for-profit organization with a mission to听provide blankets to needy children in听hospitals, shelters, social service agencies听and other locations.听This听year marks year听five鈥痮f听the IEA鈥檚 鈥淪chools and Community Outreach by Educators (SCORE)鈥澨齝ash grants being available to IEA members.
