The grant was awarded to听William Harris Elementary School听on behalf of听the Northeast Community Fund, a non-profit organization that helps the homeless population in the Decatur area. Taylor LaFrence, a听3rd grade teacher听(pictured above,听middle),听challenged her students to research the needs of听local community organizations in order to best assist them.听Once all student听presentations were heard, the student body voted to select one organization to partner with for this year’s community impact project. Students then听paired their writers workshop model and social studies unit to create and publish persuasive iMovies soliciting for donations from the community. Watch the video below.
